JMF produces distinctive hand-tooled reproductions for clients who prize furniture for its historical and artistic value. Through his educational background and over thirty years experience, Mendel has gained an intimate knowledge of 18th and 19th century furniture designs, wood choices, construction and finishing methods.
Pier Table
This is a reproduction with a twist. The original 1775 table had a gadrooned border on three sides of the top, and the table was reproduced slightly longer.
Reproduction of Chest
This reproduction of a 1670 chest was made after seeing the original at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford, CT. My reproduction was featured in Fine Woodworking magazine in 2002.
Reproduction of Chippendale Chair
This circa 1760 - 1780. Chippendale chair was reproduced from a series of photographs in the Blue Book of Philadelphia Furniture
Chippendale chair circa 1775-1800. I was able to measure the original at the Yale University furniture conservatory and faithfully replicate this classic.
