Tuition: $500 plus materials
In this workshop you can build an extremely solid bench with a small footprint that will be a reference planar surface that will be the foundation of all your intricate handwork.
The bench measures 24” by 36” and will customized to your personal working height. It is recommended that you make your bench from hard maple, however, you may choose to make your bench of whatever material you desire.
Skills learned will include: building a table structure, advanced milling, draw-bolted mortise and tenon joinery, indexed dado work, keyed expansion joints, and for the advanced student dovetailing. Advice on choosing the right bench vise will be discussed and its installation will be covered as well.
The first class meeting will be spent covering the safe use of the shops machinery, followed by a written test to start the second session. Proper techniques for operating each machine safely and for recognizing potentially dangerous situations will be emphasized. The safety test must be taken and passed by all student regardless of their past woodworking experience.
Tools
Students must bring their own hand tools and will receive tools lists and sources for purchasing what they need with confirmation of enrollment. Click on the links page for a list of sources for tools from various companies.
